Lodi Cycle Bowl, April 2, 2022
Big night with lots of riders. The Open Pro show was lead off the line by AFT rider James Ott from Simi Valley. He held the point for about ¾ of the race when AFT rider Travis Petton from Ramona, California went under him coming out of Turn 4 without a touch and went on to victory. The last 2 laps of the race, it appeared that Lodi’s Christian Spurgeon was going to get Ott, but James slammed the door and brought it home in 2nd, with Spurgeon in 3rd.
Noteworthy: Donnie Darrah took home a rare triple by winning the 230, Master A, and the Vintage A (which sports the fast McDonnell brothers). This was not an easy feat and is rarely done.
The Dash for Cash was won by James Ott, and the Money Class was Tony Meiring holding off Ott and Petton at the line. The girls, Macie LeBlanc and Sharon Mowell had a good night. Upset of the night was in Open Singles; Myles Henderson holding off the superfast and talented Kage Tadman, who tried lap after lap, over and under, but Henderson held the line. One of the best races of the night was the 50cc PW class. It was Ryder Meiring and Wyatt Luker swapping the top spot, and during the last lap with Luker winning, Meiring grabbed the lead and won the race. Nice rides by Jackson Brown in the 65cc class and Colton (Colt 45) Schafer.

What started as a normal race evening, turned ugly. The heat races were going fine until the Master B/C class with our "Line-Up" guy Mark Duewel getting the lead, going down hard in Turn 3 and getting run over, and then getting transported to the trauma center (he is doing well). Up next, the Open Money race and coming off the line, DeMario with the holeshot and going down in Turn 1 with Tarren Santero having no where to go and ran over the leg of DeMario, sending him to the trauma center as well. I don’t know his condition as of yet but I hear that Demario and Duewel were ER roommates. This left us with one worker and we had to find workers. Hallie was superb with Cherie (our gate lady) and a Kart mom named Shannon O’Brian stepping up. Those girls answered the call and races went on. Meanwhile back on the track, Wyatt Luker getting the best of Colton Elsholz and Ryder Meiring. After the streak was broken, Double-D (Donnie Darrah) was back up to his ways and turning the trifecta again by winning the 230 Adult, Master A, and Vintage A main events. Three in one night is rare and hard to do. Darrah had some fast guys chasing him all night long. Good job Double-D! Speaking of Doubles, how about a daily double which is hard also by winning two classes, Jett Katarzy in 65 and 85 classes, then Nayden Balladares won a fast 450 Open Am while being chased by some fast girls, Macie LeBlanc and Kenzie Luker. He also won the Open Singles class besting who else but a fast Macie LeBlanc and her running mate Sharon Mowell. Brooke Lozano looked good and these ladies are fast! We featured the UAS Karts being won by Samuel Cervantes and the KT-100 Karts won by super fast Jason Van Fossen. Open Money was Tony Meiring with Andrew Luker and Tyler Raggio (coming all the way from Euharlee, Georgia). The Open A was a great race with Luker taking the win after the first 11 laps behind Raggio and after trying over and under, Luker slipped by Raggio with Dominic Monaco coming home third. But before all the great racing and watching the Trifecta and a couple of Daily Doubles, the National Anthem was sung by a 6 year old named Aaron Kamp Jr. who rocked it! That’s Ralph Lee’s great grandson. Next time you’re near sign ups, thank the girls and the gate lady too! What a night!

After a week off, Lodi got back to racing! Nice turnout, and great racing! Out of there at 8:15! Things got started with the Little Ones, the PW 50’s. Ryder Meiring with a great win and a nice ride by Colton Elsholz, William Bendon and Eloise Hedrick. The 230 class with multiple tri-fecta winner Donnie Darrah looked to get another one and topped the 230 class. Then came the Vintage A and the streak was broken by Jimmy Abrams with Darrah in third. With the streak gone for now, Darrah came out and won a big Master A class over William McDonnell to get back to winning. 250 Open was Jaymes Arnaiz over Myles Henderson. Joe Dirt fell in Turn 3 and skinned up his arm. The class also featured Tom Fredrickson who was playing with fire trying to hang with the young guns. Open Singles was Myles Henderson. 100 Sportsman were the fast ladies, Sharon Mowell over Macie LeBlanc. Jett Katarzy turning the double double in the 65 class over "Bam Bam" Brodie Davis and winning the 85 class. Money Class saw Luker go down in Turn 2 to bring out the red flag and putting him on the back for the restart. Christian Spurgeon who looked to shake off any slump by winning that fast money race over Tony Meiring and Jon Schaefer. Meiring held point in the Dash for Cash, and Open A was a great race. With Meiring out front, Luker on a mission with Spurgeon running with him and getting by Meiring to come home with Luker, Spurgeon and Meiring and a great ride by Grant Holmes in 4th. Talking to Meiring and Luker after the race, Meiring said he left too much room for Luker to get by. Ride of the night, Chad Spurgeon was fast riding the high line and looking good. He could be challenging his brother this year for wins.
Special thanks to the new scoring crew, Lisa, Hallie, Cathy, Cherie and Amanda, we had your back! Lodi couldn’t do it without you.
Kevin Broyles stepped up as Starter and Ben Brum, what can you say about him? He did great his first time on "Line-Up" and then sells popcorn up in the stands at intermission! Mark Duewel after his nasty crash was back and wearing a spotless, bright white, sleeved dress looking shirt and when I asked him why would you wear a nice white shirt and his comment was, “I just hope no one pats me on the back”! Mark must still be feeling the effects from the accident but good to see him back.
Up next is the Stockton MC putting on their show June 4th. Lodi get’s back to racing on June 11th.

Story by J&W Racing, pix by Stewart Barber and Diana Peebles
Saturday June 18, 2022 saw the 29th running of the Lodi Motorcycle Club's 100cc TT National event. This year's race was sponsored by Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys and was also the Toby Jorgensen Memorial race in memory of that fine young rider whom we lost in 1999.
The 100 TT National event is unique for 3 reasons. First, it is limited to 150cc maximum air-cooled 4-stroke motorcycles and second, because it is run on the Lodi Cycle Bowl blue groove TT track, famous for it's speed and challenging layout. What really makes the 100 National so challenging, however, is that it is a 25-lap race, placing a high premium on not only a fast rider/bike combo but also upon that combination staying fast and staying together for 25 long and tough laps. More than one bike has prematurely ended this race with smoke billowing and oil dripping and even more riders have pulled off with tongues dragging and sore arms unable to hold on any longer.
The very first 100 National was run in 1992 and was won by none other than TT Prince Chris Carr. The race has run every year since then except for the 2020 Covid blackout season. In the years since, some pretty fast riders have taken home the #1 plate including Billy Arbogast, Mark Key, Dominic Colindres, Cole Crowley, Mikey Martin, Stevie Bonsey, Michael Inderbitzen, Tarren Santero and of course, Toby Jorgensen.
To that list Mr. Dominic Monaco has now indelibly added his name. Riding a unique bike that has a history that includes Kenny Roberts and Engines Only, Dominic utterly owned the event this year, getting off the line in 1st place and leading every lap from 1 through 25. Multi-time winner Cole Crowley did worry Monaco for the first 5 laps but Monaco steadily pulled ahead and remained on rails and on fire. The race ended Monaco, Crowley, David Jorgensen, Blake Ash and Dominic Dias in 1st through 5th, with the remaining 13 riders all having had a great time and all at least 1 lap down on the winner. In the Junior National, Dean Rabideau lead all 15 laps but Ethan Salmon kept Dean honest and made him work hard for his victory. In short,a good time was indeed had by all.
Open A TT races are always entertaining and this one was no exception. Christian Spurgeon got the holeshot and lead the first couple of laps but Andrew Luker was on a mission and in the left hander leading to the jump, Spurgeon drifted a little wide and that's all Luker needed. Luker lead the rest of the race with Spurgeon in 2nd until the last lap when Spurgeon again ran just a little wide in that same corner and BP1 Tony Meiring made a clean pass that stuck to the end. Big bikes on technical TT tracks are always entertaining!
The 50cc race was also a Luker show. This race was run with the "fast 50s" starting on the front row and the PW50s and XR50s starting on row 2. Young Wyatt Luker quickly realized the gearing on Bryce Botelho's KTM was low enough that his Yamaha PW50 could just about run with the KTM, so Wyatt passed, was repassed, passed again and ended the race a nose ahead of the KTM. Wyatt told his dad Andrew after the race that "Dad, I want one of THOSE!"
The LMC is taking a break until 7/23 when we'll be running a ST event, but the Cycle Bowl will be hosting an AHRMA National event on 7/9 and 7/10. For details, go to www.lodicyclebowl.com.
