Requirements to join and be in good standing: Meetings are every Monday at 7:00PM at the clubhouse at the Cycle Bowl. Persons interested should come to a meeting and ask for an application, 2 members will need to co-sign for you. You then go through 8 "readings" where you attend 8 meetings and we see if we're comfortable with you and you with us. We're also looking to see if you're a potential member that will be doing his share of club work, that means that as membership requires at least 120 hours per year of volunteer time, we would want to see you doing at least a "pro rata" amount of time during your readings. Thus, if you show up every Monday for 8 weeks for your readings, that would be about 2 months and we'd want to see at least 20 hours of club work during that time. Track watering, flagging or other race work, weeding, facility repair- there are lots of club duties that count as hours. At the 8th reading we'll vote on your membership and if you pass, then you are a probationary member with all rights and privileges except we'll do one final vote at your one-year mark. Dues are $75.00 per year, payable when we vote you in at your 8th reading. To stay in good standing you need to be up to date on a pro rata basis as to the 120 hours and have your dues paid, you also need to attend at least 1 meeting per month.
Benefits: If in good standing you get a club gate key and can come to the Club any time you want. You can ride any time on non-race days during the daytime (it costs a bunch to run the lights so we only do that for races) and you can bring 2 guests to ride on non-race days. If your hours are up to date you get all race entries (except any money-paying races) at 1/2 price, if you have "double hours" (240 hours per year) you get free races. The discount race entries apply to you and any direct family members (self, wife, kids, grandkids). The Club also has a Christmas dinner that is covered by the Club.
From my perspective the best part of membership is feeling like you're helping keep one of the few and one of the oldest race venues in the country open and going strong. It's also cool to have a practice venue as there are few places to practice dirttrack. It also saves a nice little sum of money to get the 1/2 price rides, if you ride all 21 events that we're running this year and ride two classes per event, that's 21 times 2 times $30.00 or $1,260.00, 1/2 of that is $630.00. If you've got any kids and they ride too you save even more. |
