Brand New Minor Release Issue 4/14/08-
Read This Now!!!
Well, the AMA has changed things again. The LMC has
just
received word that "The AMA Competition Card no longer serves as proof
that an AMA Annual Release and Waiver is on file with the AMA". You
will
recall that we were pushing the Competition Membership because to get
that membership card, you had to send the AMA a notarized Minor Release
that was good for the whole year.
The new drill is that the AMA has created a new card, the "AMA
Annual Release and Waiver Verification Card". This card, as its name
implies, verifies that you have properly submitted a waiver to the AMA
and that it has been approved. The AMA is telling us that if a minor
does not have a Waiver Verification Card, the minor must have one of
the
per-race releases at each race, signed by both parents. Please recall
that these per-race releases must be signed by both parents at the
track
or by one parent at the track with the other parent signing away from
the track but with that parent's signature being notarized.
We know that this is going to be a hassle for many parents. We
wish we could do more and are asking the AMA if because of this short
notice if they can extend the policy of allowing the Competition
Membership by itself to serve as evidence of having submitted a
notarized Minor Release, at least for a month or two. Until they let us
do this, however, you, we and your kids will have to comply with this
new requirement.
So let's be clear- if you come to the Bowl and have a minor
rider who wants to race, as long as both parents have signed the Minor
Release, either here at the track or away from the track but with a
notarized signature, your kid is fine to race. If you have one of the
new Annual Release and Waiver Verification Cards, you are set to race.
If you have a Competition Membership or a regular membership card only,
you will have to have both parents sign the Minor Release here at the
track.
The AMA has downloadable forms on its webpage but your printer
must print in color to use them. We are asking the AMA to send us those
forms to have available for you at the races (but you'll still have to
have both parents sign the Minor Releases until the AMA receives your
Annual Release forms and issues you the Annual Release and Waiver
Verification Card). We'll let you know when we hear more.
